Hello and happy Thursday friends and fam! I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the new year. Charlie and I took our Christmas decorations down and did some minimal reorganizing earlier in the week before heading back to work. Otherwise, not much to report over here because a) I just talked with you guys on Tuesday and b) I haven’t don’t anything exciting, ha. As much as I wish I had fun things to tell you, I have to be honest and say it’s kind of nice to get back to my quiet little routine in the office, especially now that I don’t feel like I’m drowning in holiday work. What about you guys? Are you enjoying this more quiet time of year?

This is the first official outfit blog post of 2019 so I thought I would share some tips on a current trend: corduroy. Corduroy pants to be exact. The word “yuck” was the first thing to come to mind when I was younger and thought of anything corduroy but now I’m kinda lovin’ it! Isn’t it funny how our taste changes? Anywho, I kind of struggled with corduroy when I first started dabbling with it again so I thought I would share what I’ve learned when it comes to styling it.
Tip 1: Don’t Overthink It
I think this was my biggest hangup when I was trying to style corduroy earlier in the fall. I felt like I needed to make the whole look be some kind of 70’s murky corduroy outfit which is 10000% not true!
Tip 2: Add More Texture
Corduroy on its own is a fun texture and can sometimes be rather bold. But it’s actually one of those textures that needs another texture to compliment it. I found that every time I added a simple cotton top to something corduroy it just fell flat. Instead, add a ribbed top, a sweater, shearling, or something leather or suede to help the corduroy pop!
Tip 3: Give it Some Dimension
Add some fun layers to the look. Layers always elevate a look, even if it’s a simple coat. If it’s not quite layering weather, you can pair your corduroy with a fun floral pattern or some bold stripes. You can check out how I styled a corduroy skirt in the early fall before it was truly layering season. 🙂
Tip 4: Embrace It
Similar to my first tip, just follow your gut when it comes to corduroy. Don’t overthink it and try to make it something it doesn’t have to be. On the same token, embrace it for what it is. Corduroy is like “dressy” comfy cozy, if you will. You can be as laid back as you want with it but still have tons of fun with it!
Have you guys been wearing any corduroy this year? I’m not mad about it making a comeback… although preteen me might gag at that, ha! What are some tips you have for styling corduroy? Do you guys want to see more posts like this in 2019? I feel like “how to” and “tips” post always seem to get you guys excited so if that’s whatcha wanna see I’ll do more of it! 🙂
