How are all of you lovely people doing on this fine Sunday?! I hope everyone has had a great weekend! I have a really busy week ahead so I’ve been spending some time trying to get ahead of things so that I’m not treading water all week. I’m also making sure to get in plenty of rest so I’m not tired before Monday even gets here. Do you prefer busy or quiet weekends? I like a mix of both! Weekends are great for catching up on work but they’re also super necessary to rest and rejuvenate!
SWEATER, c/o Chicwish – unfortunately sold out at the speed of light but I also love this one, this one, this one and this one | JEANS | LEATHER MOTO JACKET, almost identical here | BOOTIES, similar here, here (most similar but limited sizes available) and here | BAG | EARRINGS, similar here
I’m not entirely sure why, but this has been one of my favorite outfits as of lately! Maybe it’s because it has some of my favorite things in an outfit: neutrals, ripped jeans, an oversized sweater, and cute booties. Either way, it’s definitely channeling some edgy chic vibes (also 2 of my favorite things) so I thought I would share some secrets to creating a killer edgy chic outfit!
5 Things That Make a Great Edgy Chic Outfit
1. Anything Moto
Moto is hands down the simplest way to make an outfit look edgy. This could be moto boots, moto pants or a moto jacket. Personally, I’m a fan of a good moto jacket because you can do so much with it. Moto pants are fun but they’re definitely a distinct look and moto boots can be a bit clunky and lack a certain amount of femininity sometimes. A moto jacket on the other hand can be dressed up, dressed down, dressed side ways… anything!
Leather is neck and neck with moto on the list of “how to be edgy.” 😛 Leather is super versatile, though, and is definitely not just an edgy material. It can be really sophisticated and chic, too. That’s why leather is particularly great for an edgy chic outfit – because it covers all bases. Don’t be afraid of leather when you’re trying to lean a little more edgy. I’ve worn leather leggings with leather booties, a leather jacket and a leather bag before. Lots of leather, sure, but totally edgy and stylish.
3. Dark Hues
You’re not typically going to see someone in an all white outfit that looks particularly “edgy.” Chic, 100%… edgy, not so much. Dark hues are the way to go if you’re wanting to channel your edgy side. It doesn’t necessarily have to be black, either. Go for a charcoal, a midnight blue, or even a really musty dark brown if you want to do something besides the traditional black. But don’t misunderstand me, you can never go wrong with black. 😉 I always say, “when in doubt, black out.”
Being edgy is all about taking risks. Being chic is all about your silhouette. So naturally an edgy chic outfit would be a balancing act between taking risks and creating a great silhouette. What I mean is this: pay attention to your silhouette but take some risks with it. If you’re wearing loose fitting pants and an oversized sweater (like I am here), balance it out with a pair of sleek shoes. If you’re wearing a sassy pair of skinny jeans and a body suit, go for some chunky sneakers instead.
5. A Killer Pair of Jeans
Lastly and, most surprisingly, incorporate your most killer pair jeans into your outfit. When you look up “edgy chic outfits” on Pinterest, one thing you see across the board (pun intended) is jeans. You could wear your most bootylicious pair of black skinny jeans or a ripped, torn and tattered pair of boyfriend jeans. It’s what you do with the jeans that counts. And you can refer to numbers 1-4 for that. 😉
