Happy Thursday friends and fam! I hope you’re all having a wonderful week… we’re almost to the end, woohoo! It has been a nasty rainy week here but the weather finally took a turn for the better yesterday. And, today, I’m going to get out and enjoy the nice weather with my friend Angela from On to the Next Trend. We’re heading to Longwood Gardens today to shoot for our blogs and I’m so excited! Longwood has been one of my favorite places since moving to PA and I don’t go often enough. I haven’t been since the fall so I’m excited to see what’s in bloom for spring. 🙂 And of course can’t wait to share some photos with you in a few weeks!
Today I wanted to share a new style that I’ve been loving this spring and that’s sweet style. I mean, the style itself isn’t new, but my interest in it is. I think it’s stemming from my new found appreciate for dresses. I’ve always liked dresses but this spring I feel like one of those girls that’s just always in a dress… and I’m honestly not mad about it. But what’s more is that I feel like my recent taste in dresses really eludes to a sweeter style because I’m liking babydoll silhouettes, pretty textures, soft palettes and the occasional ruffle.
But it’s how you style a dress that really determines what style it leans towards. You guys already know that I’m a lover of hats. I feel like hats – straw hats to be specific – tend to look very “sweet” when styled with dresses. Add a complimentary straw bag into the mix and you really have some trendy and feminine spring textures in the look.
Espadrilles have been the game changer for me, though. Like I said, I’ve always liked dresses, hats and straw bags but I’ve actually never really cared for espadrilles… until this year, that is. I’m not sure what changed, but I’m really liking them now. I’m rather picky about them, but the right pair can make me swoon. These in particular (that you’ve been seeing a lot of… hehe) really add to the sweet style because of the ankle wrap and bow.
What I like about sweet style is that it gives me a chance to feel girly and “cute” a) while still being chic and b) without feeling preppy. Nothing at all against preppy style – I know people who do it very well – it’s just never been a style that I felt suited me. But, with all styles, there are bits and pieces that I love and I feel like sweet style takes the small touches of preppy trends that I don’t mind.
So, what do you guys think of this spring dress? I know I’ve been sharing a lot of dresses with you lately but this one had me really excited. Plus, I’d been wondering how to describe my tastes as of late and, for whatever reason, this dress just kind of helped me put it into words. Thanks so much for reading today you guys! Talk to you again soon. 🙂
