Happy June, ya’ll! So excited for this month! June is a huge birthday month for my side of the family and it starts… today! Today is my uncle and niece’s birthday-happy birthday you two! My mom and brother will celebrate their birthdays later in the month. I’m also sooososo excited that Charlie and I are headed to the beach with our families in two and a half weeks! We’re spending one week at the beach with my family (I’ll get to celebrate my mom and brother’s birthdays with them!) and then headed straight to the next beach with Charlie’s family! We didn’t get to the beach at all last summer, so I’m looking forward to 2 straight weeks of sun and sand! But even better, I’m overjoyed by all of the time that we’ll be spending with our families. I’ve been missin’ them somethin’ awful lately! June’s gonna be a great month! So, let’s kick it off with a little May roundup!

I’m not the fittest person alive and I’m not an expert by any means, but I am very enthusiastic about being active (have been for years). Since I’ve been feeling a lot better lately, I spent a lot of time in May getting back into my workout routine. Definitely not easy to do after 5 months off from the gym (yes… five…), but I have a summer bod to work on so that’s all the more motivation… especially considering it’s kind of last minute, hahaha! 😛 So, I thought I would share the workouts and exercises that I’ve been loving this month for the May roundup.
1. The elliptical (if I must do cardio… ugh)
I really don’t like cardio. I’ll just be honest. But sometimes ya gotta suck it up and do it. I’ll also be honest and tell you that I haven’t done a lot of cardio this month… I’m still kind of puny so it doesn’t take much at all to get my heart rate up. But when I do do cardio, the elliptical has been my first choice lately.
2. Legs: Circuit training
I know some people are skeptical of workout DVDs, but knock it till you try it. I’ve been a long time fan of Jillian Michaels, and her workouts honestly kick my butt harder than the gym does. She’s absolutely ridiculous (in a good way) and it’s hell (in a good way), but that’s what you need if you’re wanting to see changes! Her “Killer” series is one of my all time faves.
3. Arms and back: Circuit training
Seriously, don’t underestimate the power of a good living room workout. I’ve (clearly) been loving/needing the guidance and motivation from Jillian Michaels while I get back into my routine.
4. Abs: (you guessed it) Circuit training
As I mentioned, I don’t really love cardio, so you’re probably wondering why I’m so into circuit training. The thing about circuit training is that it’s a good way to get your heart rate up with super short cardio intervals instead of spending 45 minutes on the treadmill until you feel like you’re gargling your heart. BUT, I also mentioned that it takes little to nothing to get my heart rate up these days, so I’ve actually only been doing the cardio warm up on the DVDs and sitting out the intervals between circuits. Just a little tip in case your heart rate can’t handle the Jillian Michaels insanity either.
I’ve mostly been doing these DVDs all month, so it’s time to switch it up some and do a little strength training in the gym or some zumba and pilates, but I also love trying new forms of exercise! So if you have any super fun or exciting workouts that you like to do, let me know what they are-I’d love to try them! Thanks for reading everyone! Hope your month gets off to a great start!
