Happy Monday friends and fam! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Can you believe this is the last full week we have before Christmas?! You’re going to be seeing a lot of me on the blog this week as we gear up for Christmas because I want to share some last minute Christmas inspiration and ideas with you. I may or may not also have a fun little giveaway coming your way tomorrow. 😉
Today I wanted to share another Christmas decor post with you. I shared a step by step guide to style and decorate a Christmas tree a few weeks ago and today I’m hoping to give you some inspiration for your Christmas tablescape in case you’re still trying to put that together before Christmas dinner next week. 🙂
How to Recreate a Christmas Tablescape with Decorations you Already Have
Fun fact, Charlie and I have lived in a different place for the last FIVE Christmases. Isn’t that crazy?! We used to have a red and gold table setting to match our old red and gold tree but we’ve made some changes since the last time we had a table to set… 4 years ago.
Besides getting a new tree to accommodate new spaces and me suddenly swearing off all forms of color a few years ago, we decided that our Christmas tablescape didn’t quite work as well as at used to and needed to be revamped a bit. And by we, I mean me… and Charlie just being ever so patient with my incessant desire for everything to match just right, hah!
So I thought I would share some of the key points of how I recreated our Christmas tablescape without having to buy all new decor! Back at Thanksgiving I shared some tips for creating a Thanksgiving tablescape on a budget and those are 100% applicable for a Christmas tablescape as well! But, generally, people tend to have more Christmas decorations than fall decorations so I thought I would share a bit about how I tied everything together!
Decide on your Color Scheme
The first thing to consider is if you want your tablescape to match your Christmas tree or any other Christmas decor (or regular decor) that you can see from your dining room table. For me, that was a yes. Our Christmas tree and other decor is mostly white, silver, and gold, so I decided to run with that.
Reuse any Decor that Matches your new Color Scheme
Our Christmas tree along with most of our regular decor is gold and silver, so I decided to create a gold and silver Christmas tablescape. As I mentioned, our old Christmas decor was gold and red so it was pretty easy to just ditch the red and reuse the gold pieces that we already had.
Charlie and I got our gold and white plates, wine glasses, chargers, and vase 5 or 6 years ago at Pier 1. We still love them so we decided to reuse them. Luckily those are the most expensive parts of a tablescape so we didn’t have to spend oodles of money on the other pieces! See Charlie, I promise I tried to save where I could. 😉
Incorporate any new Colors into the Tablescape
Since what we already had and reused was primarily gold, I knew that I needed to bring some what and silver into the mix if I wanted things to match our Christmas tree. The easiest way to do that was with the centerpiece so I decided to add in silver candle holders that Charlie found at Target. I used a mix of gold and silver candles and surrounded everything with white and silver garland as a way to blend all of the colors together.
Tie Everything Together
Now you just want to tie everything together! Charlie really wanted a small touch of greenery on the table as a way to tie in our Christmas tree. Since our tree is flocked, we got some simple snow covered branches to bring some greenery into the picture. You may have more or less that you need to tie together, but it’s pretty simple to just add a pop of something small to bring it all together. 🙂
Do you all have a Christmas tablescape? This is the first time we’ve had a true dining room table and I’ve been having the best time decorating it, funny enough. I think Christmas has been my favorite set up so far, though. What are some ways that you would try to recreate your Christmas tablescape without buying all new decor?
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, found it helpful, and got a little inspo from it! Thanks so much for stopping by and reading today. Only 8 more days till Christmas! But who’s counting? 😉
