How’s it going everybody?! I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far. I’ve been a busy bee all week. My cousin is getting married this weekend and I’ve been trying to get ahead on work so I can enjoy some family time back home in NC. Plus I’ve been playing catch up from all of the work I seemed to have missed over the last few weeks of insanity. Murphy’s Law has been in full effect around the Hodges house lately but, knock on wood, I’m hoping things are on the up and up now. 🙂

It’s no secret that 90s trends are trending big time right now. But 70s trends sneak in here and there too. I snagged this shirt a while back and it’s so different from anything else I own and I love it. It definitely has some strong 90s vibes to it so I decided to play on that but I also threw some 70s vibes in there too.
I love when old trends come back around. But I’m one of those people that wants to add a small touch of an old trend to current styles rather than look like I walked straight out of a time machine from the 70s or 90s. Don’t get me wrong, I really love a good throwback outfit, it’s just not my personal gig. Anyways, if you’re like me and want a more subtle retro vibe, then this post is for. Today I’m sharing 3 easy tips for styling a subtly retro spring outfit!
3 Tips for Styling a Subtly Retro Spring Outfit
Tip 1: Mix Retro Inspired Pieces with Current Styles
I think the most important thing to keep in mind when you’re trying to create a subtly retro outfit is to avoid going too retro… otherwise it’s no longer subtle. 😉 Mixing retro inspired pieces with current styles is a great way to add a touch of retro to your outfit without looking like a full blown spice girl or a hippie.
I wore my 90s inspired shirt and a pair of shoes with some real 70s vibes. But you don’t see me with crazy bell bottom jeans or scrunchies everywhere so that things don’t get too retro. If you keep some current trends in your outfit then the retro vibes are naturally going to be more subtle.
Tip 2: Wear Classic Pieces with a Retro Spin
This is another great way to keep things subtle. Jeans are a classic. They’ve been around forever and probably always will be. The styles of jeans are what have changed over time. I wore a pair of jeans that are “mom jean” inspired (huge 90s trend right now) without being full blown mom jeans. They still have a nice fit to them but are high waisted, light wash and straight legs so you still get that 90s spin on a great fitting pair of jeans.
Tip 3: Accessorize Appropriately
Accessories should go one of two ways with a subtly retro spring outfit. If your outfit already has a lot of throwback vibes to it, go for minimal and simple accessories like I did here. On the other hand, accessories can be what makes your outfit retro, in which case you want to have some strong accessories for a simpler outfit.
I’ve been loving a lot of 90s trends lately but I’ve been shying away from them because I don’t want to look like a 90s poster child. But I finally decided to just go for it in my own subtle nature so hopefully these tips were helpful to you as well! Thanks so much for reading today! Much love!
