Okay guys, this isn’t your typical blog post where I share a fun outfit, trend, and how to style it. I mean, I’m still sharing these fun tips, but I’m also sharing a pretty big life update! I’m actually pretty nervous to tell you guys about this, and I’ll tell you why in a minute, but I think that it’s super important for me to share this news with you because you’re actually a huge part of it!
Okay, ya ready for it? I quit my job. Phew, there. I said it. It’s no secret that The Savvy Camel has become my baby. I’m so insanely passionate about it and I pour my heart and soul into it. It has so much opportunity to grow and I’m so excited to have every single day of the week to focus on watering The Savvy Camel’s grass! 🙂
While the blog is, quite honestly, not yet able to fully sustain my portion of the family income, I’m thankful that we (Charlie and I) are in a place that we’re comfortable enough to take the risk. We’re comfortable because of the growth that the blog has experienced over the last year and a half and we both believe that it will get there if I can truly give it my undivided attention. Some financial sacrifices are being made in the meantime and I’m more thankful for that than words can explain because I truly get to chase my dream.
I’m telling you this vague information about the financial side of things so that you know I’m truly ready to do this thing for you guys. I wouldn’t have given up a bi-weekly paycheck if I wasn’t willing to give it my all and make this a great resource for you guys. More importantly, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to make a real go of this if it weren’t for the support I receive from every. last. one of you! So not only am I thanking you a million times over, but I actually need your support now than ever. This a community of open, honest, and supportive people, allowing me to be the same with you!
I’m sure some of you may be thinking “okay, so if you weren’t quite financially ready to quit your job, then why did you?” Well, the answer is because I really want to see this blog flourish and my circumstances are a little different. Blogging is truly a full time job. Some of the most successful bloggers are working 70+ hours a week! But as you guys probably know by now, I have Crohn’s Disease and, even when I’m in remission (which I am right now, woop woop!), I get worn out so easily. The combination of my part-time job (and working on this blog was challenging for my health, preventing me from ever committing 40 hours a week to it. So my amazing husband and I have agreed to make some changes in our lives, cut my income (we had practice during my last medical leave, haha), and give me the chance to put in 40+ hours a week on this thing!
The scariest thing about quitting my job as early as I did is not a fear of failure, but that so many people could watch me fail. It’s the vulnerability of it all. If this crashes and burns for some reason, everyone’s gonna know because I’ve opened up so much about it. So it’s scary to think that everyone would know I failed. I wouldn’t be afraid to fail in private. But I stand by vulnerability being so important in this little community.
I think being honest with you guys is good for so many reasons. First, it helps keep me accountable. I mean, it’s out in the open so I better give it my all, ya know? And all that talk of failure, it’s not gonna happen. 🙂 This is my reminder to you that we just have to work hard for our dreams and we’ll find our way. I believe that if I believe I can succeed, then I will. Believing in yourself means you see your strengths and you grow those strengths. And growing your strengths essentially means you’re working hard. And if you’re working hard, you will eventually succeed in some form. Success may end up being totally different than you ever imagined, but hard work will getcha there. So here’s to everyone taking risks, terrifying leaps of faith, and working their butts off to chase dreams!
Sharing this blog post is the scariest thing I’ve done yet on The Savvy Camel. I’m seriously absolutely terrified but I’m also stoked off my butt! But I want you guys to know that you’ve become my passion and made me passionate all at the same time. And like I said, I know I wouldn’t be telling you this or taking this risk if it wasn’t for you guys. So THANK YOU so much for being here and giving me this opportunity. I guess I’m officially a full time blogger and a true entrepreneur! What the heck?! Anyways, with all that being said, I’m here for you! I want to know what you want to see from me. What inspiration can I provide? What information can I share? How can I help and be of service to you? Seriously, drop a comment, shoot me an email, slide into my DMs with any question at any time! 😀
Well, now that that’s out in the open, let’s get back to our regularly scheduled programing, shall we? Hehe.
Slit Palazzo Pants
So I think we’ve confirmed that stripes are a big trend this year. As are slit palazzo pants. But honestly, I find it hard to say that stripes are a trend because have they ever really gone out of style? Anyways, I decided I wanted to try out a pair of slit palazzo pants but I knew I didn’t want a crazy print or pattern so I went with a classic (yet trendy) striped pair that I found at Express!
I felt like the pants were pretty bold with the high slits and I wanted to let them be the focal point of the outfit so I decided to pair a simple olive cami with it to compliment the olivey/taupey/tannish color of the stripes in the pants. The slits in the pants and the slinky cut of the cami work really well together to give things a “saucy” look. It’s a little exciting without being revealing, ya know?
I wanted to give the look a bit of contrast though so I wore a pair of cognac block heels and carried a straw bag with cognac handles. I thought that a light straw bag and taupe shoes or espadrilles might make things feel a bit muted. Again, I wanted the pants to do the talking for this look so I decided to keep accessories to a minimum and just wore my trusty gold boyfriend watch and some dainty gold layering necklaces. The outfit needed a bit of sparkle but nothing overbearing.
Have you guys tried a pair of slit palazzo pants? They’re super fun and make ya feel super hot! Hehe. They show off your legs but still give you the added security of… well… pants, haha. Hope you guys enjoyed this look and thanks thanks thanks for letting me share my big news with you guys! I’m super excited to take things to the next level over here on TSC with you all! 🙂
