Happy Style Crush Monday everybody! Hope you’re all doing well on this fine first Monday in May. Today I’m comin’ at ya with some more killer fashion! This is a friend of mine that I’m lucky to know because she works with Charlie and, I kid you not, she kills absolutely every style…ever. I’ve seen her in a laid back Adidas hoodie and beanie, perfectly curated workwear, and traditional Nigerian garments (you’ll get a small taste of that today!) and she looked like a goddess in all of them! And yes, I have literally described her as a style goddess. I’ve never met someone with such a variety in their wardrobe and I absolutely love it! She’s a total surprise every time you see her and she never disappoints! So today, I’m introducing you all to…
I mean, when it comes to stylish workwear, does it get any better? Fun fact: Kafayat actually sewed this skirt herself! She even sewed it without a pattern when she was apprenticing under a neighborhood tailor. The fabric of the skirt, ankara (ahn-kra), is integral to Nigerian culture and tradition and she wears it very proudly and beautifully!
I think my favorite thing about Kafayat’s style is the juxtaposition. And I don’t just mean with the different styles that she breaks out (though she does refer to herself as a chameleon which is the absolute perfect description!), but with the contrast within each outfit. I love that she styled this totally corporate appropriate look with a power blazer that still allows her ancestral tradition to filter through with the colors and pattern of the ankara skirt!
SO… little surprise for you guys! Kafayat was super generous and actually shot two looks with me because I absolutely adore when she brings her Nigerian roots into the picture and I really wanted to show that off to you guys! So here’s a little taste of her styling another vibrant, printed skirt that speaks to traditional Nigerian garb. I looooved this little number so much! She told me that her crop top was a steal from Zara a while back and she wears it so many different ways (don’t I always preach versatility?!) She was also telling me that she likes to wear it with floor length circle skirts like this to balance her outfits. Showing skin on top means showing less on the bottom. And I literally do the exact. same. thing! Fashionistas that think alike. 😉
Well ladies and gents, that’s just a bit of the amazingness that is my May Style Crush, Kafayat! If you want to see more of her style, check her out on Instagram @ka.fiya. I’m not lying when I say it’s something new AND amazing every time! I love how full of surprises she is and, best of all, how one day to the next can be totally different but she is never anything less than exactly who she is. That’s what style is all about, after all, and I haven’t met anyone who does a better job at that than Kafayat! Thanks so much for allowing me to feature you and for absolutely killin’ it! 😀
