Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Before I get started, I have a fun little story about the coat that I’m wearing in this post. It seems appropriate for such a romantic holiday! Charlie and I visited Pittsburgh over Halloween weekend in 2014. Being the hot mess that I can be from time to time, I forgot to pack a coat… mind you it snowed on the drive up. Naturally, our first stop was to pick up a coat. I honestly don’t remember where I got the coat from because the fact that CHARLIE PROPOSED TO ME the next day was sort of the high light of the trip and all. 😉 So this classic little pea coat holds the sweetest memory! And I don’t plan on ridding of this sentimental garment anytime soon! Here’s my favorite photo from our engagement weekend in Pittsburgh—just before Charlie proposed to me at the Duquesne Incline!
I’m sure you guys are probably wondering if I’ll ever write a post about something other than a coat, right? As ready as I am to shed the coats and show off exciting new looks, Pennsylvania’s just not giving me much to work with… it’s cold, y’all! But, despite the cold, I’m still out exploring this lovely state! Last week, my sweet friend Kanree, of The Kan of Kandeur, showed me some super adorable spots out in Lancaster! It’s so quite and calm out there—a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia. We visited a cute and colorful little shop village and saw some beautiful countryside. I already can’t wait to visit again!
The reality is, we don’t all live in warmer climates so we have to make our winter wear last a bit longer. So, I thought I’d show you how I like to style my winter neutrals. You can be bundled up in a muted pallet but still have style! This is such a minimalist look and I love how crisp and clean it is.
For obvious reasons I love this coat. One being that I got engaged in it 😉 But seriously, it’s such a classic. I love that it’s charcoal because it can be paired with just about anything! I also love that it’s hooded. Besides giving you an added cozy factor, it also just gives the coat a touch of something extra.
I could show you guys a million different ways I’ve worn this coat over the years, but this look is one of my favorites. It’s so crisp! Sometimes all you need is some simple layering. A great pair of black over the knee boots and soft greys on top make for a beautiful muted pallet. This scarf has been my favorite all winter. It’s so neutral and clean but still cozy looking! It’s been so warm and is holding up perfectly, too. Likewise, I love this light grey mock neck sweater. It’s a perfect neutral that can be styled a million different ways. For this look I just layered a white tank under it for an added layer and some extra dimension.
I’m a big fan of neutrals, as you can clearly see here, but this look is neutral and classic. Every single item that I’m wearing here can be worn for seasons to come. Classic doesn’t have to mean boring—it can absolutely still be stylish. And if winter lasts a bit longer for you too and you’re running out of winter fashion inspo, it never fails to layer your best neutrals together!
Thanks to The Kan of Kandeur for the photos!
